Pataki Appoints Two Trustees in Last-Minute Senate Meeting

In a last minute Sen­ate meet­ing on Decem­ber 13th, 2006, pur­port­edly called to fin­ish a bill on civil con­fine­ment for sex­ual preda­tors, the for­mer Gov­er­nor George Pataki and the New York State Sen­ate con­firmed two appoint­ments to the CUNY Board of Trustees: Jef­frey Wiesen­feld and Solomon A. “Sam” Sutton.

Solomon A. Sut­ton, the newest mem­ber of the CUNY Board of Trustees is a grad­u­ate of Yeshiva Uni­ver­sity and is the Exec­u­tive offi­cer of Acces­sory Exchange Incor­po­rated, a com­pany that pro­duces and dis­trib­utes fine leather goods. He is also Pres­i­dent of the Sephardic Com­mu­nity Fed­er­a­tion, and the Vice-President of the Edu­ca­tion Asso­ci­a­tion for Chil­dren in New York State. In addi­tion to Sutton’s many busi­ness and civic activ­i­ties he is a cer­ti­fied fos­ter par­ent and has fos­tered at least a dozen chil­dren from New York State over the years.

The other appoint­ment, Jef­frey Wiesen­feld, is a for­mer mem­ber of the coun­ter­in­tel­li­gence depart­ment of the FBI, a cur­rent sit­ting mem­ber of the CUNY Board of Trustees and is a prin­ci­pal with Bern­stein Global Wealth Man­age­ment. Wiesen­feld was orig­i­nally appointed by Pataki in 1999. His tenure is set to expire in 2013.

Of the six­teen mem­bers of the CUNY Board of Trustees, seven are appointed by The New York state Gov­er­nor at the approval of the State Sen­ate and five are appointed by the Mayor of the City of New York. The remain­ing two mem­bers include the chairs of the CUNY Fac­ulty and Stu­dent Senates.
